Class Descriptions
Summer’s DanceWorks offers dance instruction to children, teens and adults through weekly classes, private and group lessons.
Also offered is instruction in partner dancing which includes but is not limited to: social dancing, special events such as weddings, proms, reunions and cruises.
Classes
- Mommy (Daddy) and Me Dance (introduction of dance to children with their moms or dads, includes: music, songs, props, stories and creative movement). This class is for children not yet ready to be on their own.
- Mini Dance/Fun Class (age 3) (introduction of initial techniques of ballet and specific motor skill patterns to develop rhythm and coordination utilizing music, songs, props, stories and creative movement.)
- Mini Dance/Fun Class (ages 4/5/6) (more advanced techniques than age 3 class; Tap Dance is added for these ages)
- Primary (ages 5-6) (the next step up from the mini’s fun class. Still includes creative movement at the end of class)
- Combo Classes (ages 6 – 8) (Combines Ballet/Jazz and Ballet/Tap)
- Tap Classes (all ages) (Students will hear the beat and feel the rhythm through their feet…even if you have two left feet)
- Hip Hop/Jazz (all ages) (Blend of technical jazz dance with precision kicks, turns and stylized combinations and the funky, loose style of the popular Hip Hop dance craze)
- Ballet (ages 3 – pre-teen) (Emphasis on body position, physical conditioning, stretching while building an appreciation of discipline and technique)
Partner Dancing (Each month we will offer a different style of dance; also see Ballroom & Partner Dancing)

Teen Swing/Swing Kids/Swing Tots
Swing is a partner dance which involves 6 and 8 count patterns. Swing dances such as East Coast and Lindy Hop is danced to traditional "Jitter Bug" and "Big Band" music. West Coast Swing can be danced to nearly any style of music, from Contemporary, to Pop to Latin rhythms to Blues.
Lyrical
Lyrical dance is a dance style that combines elements of ballet, modern & Jazz dance techniques. It is commonly set to popular music with vocals or just instrumental bars.
Contemporary
A style of theatrical dancing that is not as restricted as classical ballet; movements are expressive of feelings.
Cheerleading Dance
Blends the basics of cheerleading and dance movements along with stunts and tricks to create a high-energy performance.
